At one time I was leery of the CFLs because of the mercury, but if they're handled carefully and disposed of properly, it shouldn't be a problem.

I recently began using CFLs in my kitchen and the equivalent wattage to incandescent bulbs is brighter from CFLs, so not only do they save energy but help you see better too! A plus for us middle-agers!
